Sasha Namara was born on September 20, 1976 in Kuching, Sarawak. He was a performer, a dancer and choreographer of the Kuching dance group. Also a milliner a.k.a a costume designer before starting his own line up.
“I’m the costume maker, modernist millinery and accessory designer. Designing accessories is my passion. I can remember getting into my mother’s clothes and jewellers and loving it. Every day I wake up with a biggest passion for fashion”.
Deciding to further his costume making career, Sasha Namara moved from his family house and began working with few dance groups. From there he started doing theatre costumes. The dramatic style of the clothing that he made there would become as signature of his later independent design work.
No one discover Sasha Namara, till he the one discovers himself. “I created an original name and a goal design for a new brand but I didn’t have the courage to start but when my first Instragram account have been hacked and deleted, it does hurt my feeling”.
NASHA Prive was founded in 2016. The label was started in Kuching by Sasha Namara. The first appearance and collection of his brand have been made for beauty pageant finalist in early 2016 at BCCK. NASHA Prive is known for his avant-garde tailoring featuring Sarawak ethnic design aesthetics. In 2019, NASHA Prive has joined anti-fashion. A trend for feminist women to dress in ways that do not follow the norms for women’s clothing.
“I was so impressed about this style and began to find out more about it. Firstly this style is suitable for us. It’s also comfortable, free, minimalism and most important it is fit with my character. My first impression about this style (anti fashion) was about its fabric. Then the way we designed it. We don’t create this style in order to look bizarre or to impress other people but we would wear it for ourselves and pleasurable’.
His vision was one of a kind. Firstly, to inspire and motivate young generation especially. Then to tell a story and appeal to their emotions.
“I prefer high fashion that expresses such uniqueness and imagination like Galliano and McQueen made, even if it wasn’t something any of us would wear. Simply, his designs were fun to look at. His design s also had very unique shapes and messages”.
NASHA Prive work was truly the definition of high fashion and it is something that is incomparable to pretty much any other designs in the Sarawak fashion industry.
This year NASHA Prive will produce their first Artisanal collections. Collaboration with artisan expert with our pattern maker Sakura Iris Ozawa and our multitasking tailor Apiq. Artisanal fashion clothes are result of hard work and love of a craftsman. This collection will involve clothing, accessories and bags.
These collections are prepared using few Artisanal techniques. For example; laser cut on different types of leather following the design patterns. Then it will be patch on clothes either by hand sewing. Same patching techniques also will be applied using different pattern of lace also on the design clothes.
Besides we will also applying 3D beading technique on bags, accessories and clothing as well. Only very high quality beads will be use for the creations.
